Technical Overview
Spider lifts use a set of independently extendable outrigger legs — resembling a spider's legs, hence the name — to create a stable base on any surface, including stairs, ramps, and uneven ground. Unlike wheeled MEWPs that require a flat, firm surface, a spider lift can level itself on slopes up to 15° by extending each outrigger to a different length. This makes them practical on sites that would ground a conventional scissor lift or wheeled boom.
The machine travels on rubber tracks, reducing ground pressure to below 4.5 kg/cm² when deployed on outriggers — well within the tolerance of most raised access floors, marble tiles, and reinforced concrete slabs in commercial buildings. The compact body width starts from 0.69m in transport configuration, allowing navigation through standard single-leaf doorways, fire exit corridors, and passenger lifts.
Working height depends on the model selected. Our Teupen fleet includes units reaching 28m and 33m, with platform capacities of up to 230 kg. Electric and hybrid power options are available for locations with strict indoor air quality requirements — a common specification in hospitals, clean rooms, and occupied retail environments. The full 360° rotating upper structure and articulating boom sections allow the operator to position the platform precisely around structural obstacles.
Safety Standards
Outrigger interlock system
The spider lift cannot elevate the boom until all four outriggers are properly deployed and locked. An electronic interlock system checks outrigger load cells before allowing platform elevation — preventing operation on an unstable base.
Ultra-low ground pressure
When deployed on outriggers, ground pressure is kept below 4.5 kg/cm² — significantly lower than a person walking on a floor. This makes spider lifts safe on marble, ceramic tile, raised access floors, and most structural concrete slabs without additional spreader plates.
Secondary guard system
The platform is equipped with a secondary guarding system that cuts machine motion if an operator makes contact with the upper control bar — reducing the risk of crushing between the platform and overhead structures, which is the primary hazard in confined ceiling environments.
Remote control option
Several models in our fleet offer ground-based remote control operation. This allows a supervisor to monitor and fine-position the platform from the ground — an important safety option when working in congested atriums, over water features, or near electrical hazards.
Overhead hazard awareness
Spider lifts frequently operate indoors near overhead services — electrical cables, sprinkler systems, structural beams, and glass roofs. Operators must conduct a full overhead survey before elevation and maintain a minimum exclusion distance from unprotected live electrical conductors as specified in UAE Electrical Wiring Regulations.
